Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa’s pick to lead the Los Angeles Department of Transportation was unanimously approved today by members of the Transportation Committee.
Jaime de la Vega’s nomination will be heard by the full council on Friday.
“We need to transition the department to more of a multi-modal department. That means, more emphasis on (public) transit, cycling, pedestrians. It also means that we’re still going to have a focus on making sure the city streets are maintained and flow at an optimal level,” de la Vega said.
