Two state bills that could extend and clarify the end of redevelopment agencies were endorsed today by the Los Angeles City Council.

SB 659, introduced by Sen. Alex Padilla, D-Pacoima, would extend the dissolution date of community redevelopment agencies to April 15. As of now, the agencies will close their doors on Feb. 1. A second bill from Senate President Pro Tem Darrell Steinberg, SB 654, would clarify the role and responsibilities of the CRAs’ successor agencies.

Earlier this month, the city council voted against acting as the successor agency to the Community Redevelopment Agency in Los Angeles.
