A concessions agreement that will bring new restaurants and retail shops to two terminals at Los Angeles International Airport as well as the Theme Building was unanimously approved today by the Los Angeles City Council.

The contract with Westfield Concession Management will generate $331 million for Los Angeles World Airports over the next 17 years. In addition to the Theme Building, the contract will bring concessions to Terminal 2 and the Tom Bradley International Terminal. Westfield is required to make $81.9 million in improvements to the terminals, and another $16.4 million in refurbishments halfway through the agreement.

Last year, Host International was given a contract for restaurant and retail opportunities in Terminals 4, 7 and 8, which are under direct leases with airlines. A contract for Terminals 1, 3 and 6, which are domestic terminals without any long-term commitments from airlines, is currently being considered by LAWA staff.

“Because of the way the terminals line up slightly differently in terms of how leasing arrangements are with the airlines and how the passenger mix is, we’ve split them up into basically three,” said Mark Adams, LAWA government affairs manager.

A senior vice president with Westfield Concession Management told council members the company is committed to showcasing Los Angeles restaurants in the airport terminals.

“We are fully committed to making sure that first and foremost that we do a numerous number of outreaches to ensure that we encourage local and diverse and minority businesses,” said Westfield’s Dominic Lowe.
